Eugene Craft Beer: Oakshire Brewing Hellshire III Barrel-Aged Foreign-Style Stout

Heaven Hills Bourbon-Aged Hell

Eugene’s Oakshire Brewing will release their third barrel-aged beer under the Hellshire label on Saturday, February 16, 2013. Aged for a year in bourbon barrels from Kentucky’s Heaven Hills Distillery, Hellshire III is a Foreign-style Stout that will be available in 22 oz. wax-dipped bottles. Sales begin at 10 a.m. in the Oakshire Tasting Room on Madera Street, Eugene, during the Oregon Brewers Guild’s Zwickelmania event.

“Best of the series so far”

After quality issues impacted some release of the Hellshire II beer, Oakshire took time to examine process and doubly ensure that Hellshire releases met their expectations for quality.

In November 2012, a single-barrel version of Hellshire III took gold at the Festival of Wood & Barrel-Aged Beer in Chicago, Illinois. “We’re really excited to release Hellshire III after a long layoff from our Hellshire series,” said Brewmaster Matt Van Wyk. “After winning a gold medal with this beer in Chicago, it lets me know we’re back on track. Hellshire III is the best of the series so far.”

Other limited-release Oakshire beers available

During the Hellshire III release party on Feb. 16, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Oakshire also will sell vintage Brewer’s Reserve Series beers and limited quantities of Hellshire I: Bourbon Barrel-Aged American Barleywine. Other specialty barrel-aged beers will be available on draft throughout the day. Live music will be provided by local bluegrass band Whiskey Chasers, and food will be available for purchase from Delacata, which was voted the Best Food Cart of Eugene 2012.

Hellshire III 22 oz. bottles will sell for $15 each. Supplies are limited to approximately 140 cases.
