This week I am grateful for…
May I suggest… may I suggest to you… may I suggest this is the best part of your life
My dear friend Choya introduced us to female singing trio Red Molly via their song “May I Suggest”. This song lifts my heart and reminds me of what is going well in my life, and what I have to look forward to.
Another part of me would rewrite that to say, “it reminds you to quit bitching and get on it with it, sonny-jim.”
Either way. It works. Awesome song. You can find it on Red Molly’s 2008 album Love and Other Tragedies.
According to my dad and my Grandma Denise, my Granddaddy Jack loved him some black licorice. They don’t care for it, but Jack’s taste passed right on down to me.
Jodie’s Grandma Shirley keeps me supplied with my licorice fix. This despite how Jodie, like my dad and my grandma, cares for the stuff on my breath about as much as a temperance marm wants to smell gin on her husbands kisses.
So I have to get my fix when Jodie’s not around. Walking the dog works best. I pop a plug of spirally black licorice, step out into whatever the day brings, and enjoy one of the world’s most under-appreciated soft spicy brilliances.

You can’t always get what you want… but if you try sometimes, you might get what you need
I don’t go much for mantras, but this will do. Sometimes you know what you need and what you want. Sometimes you’re right, sometimes you’re dead wrong. Often, though, making the decision and progressing towards it will bring its own element of self-correction. You might not get what you want — but often you will indeed get what you need.
I can go for that.
What are you grateful for this week?
