And there was much rejoicing. From tap boards that update social media to new pitcher and taster tray options, Eugene’s popular bottle shop and pub The Bier Stein opened their new, larger location at 15th & Willamette on Apr. 15, 2013. If opening night is any indication, all that new seating—a capacity of about 150—will be spoken for quickly. Not one, but two lines of beer lovers stretched from the large central bar to the doors on two sides of the building. Every table and bar seat was filled, and still, people kept heading in.
“We live a couple blocks away and had heard about the grand opening,” said Joe, who was picking out some beers from the cooler. “It’s good to have them in the neighborhood.”

In addition to the new wall of beer coolers, The Bier Stein has added new ordering options for draft beers.
All pours are now in metric servings of .25 litre, .33 litre and .50 liter. Customers can also build their own taster trays of beers on draft.

The Bier Stein’s venerable beer boards have been replaced by 2 large flat-screen displays. Portland’s DigitalPour provided the technology. Displays notify customers instantly of what’s on tap and when kegs are replaced with a new beer. If you follow The Bier Stein on social media (Twitter @biersteineugene and Facebook), you also receive an update on the new beer that’s been tapped. The displays not only tell you about the beer—name, origin, ABV, available sizes, etc.—they also note which glassware is best.

Got a hankering to share a beer with friends? Pitchers and growlers are now available too.

“We’re super excited for their first day,” said Kim over a Victory Hop Medal. “We’re big fans, and they’re such a perfect fit for the neighborhood. We’re glad they stayed in the area.”
